Giant golden brain sculpture in desert landscape with ancient rock formations

Details

Azimuth is a festival celebrating creativity and a meeting of eastern and western culture, showcasing live music, arts and world-class food experiences – all in Al-‘Ula, the UNESCO World Heritage Site, in the middle of the desert.

We were approached by the event producer to help bring to life this ground-breaking festival in Saudi Arabia and were immediately intrigued by the bold ambition they had for the event.

The Challenge

When you’re planning a one-of-a-kind event with lofty ambitions such as bringing together vital minds from east and west, you’re going to need an experienced and well-connected team. But when you want to put the event on in a remote ancient meeting place, you’ve got yourself a challenge on a whole new level.

From weather impact risk to a lack of any infrastructure and vast distances to cover, this project had just about everything.

The Solution

Working with civil engineers to put in place ground works for the festival structures required us to first arrange for a temporary road to be built so suppliers could reach the remote site.

We made sure provisions were made for royal attendees, liaised with performers to understand the requirements for each show, and ensured contingency planning in case of rain.

The Impact

This truly unique cultural event attracted extensive media and social media coverage.
